Drawer TV

table-drawer, parts of television, frame, wires

2002, 14 × 44 × 52 cm

As a little child, it is a big experience to rummage in the grandparents’ buffet drawer. Among the lot of important or presumably important stuff it is again and again an exciting past recalling to be looking at photos of old events. As an adult, the same thing evokes gloomy nostalgia.

The object is the drawer of an old dresser – exactly the same as the one which was standing in my grandparents’ summer kitchen. And into that I have mounted the circuits and screen of a camping tv – popular in the ’80s – deprived of its housing. On the small monochrome screen we can see old family photos in the form of a slide-show.
